9:00am Intervention and Production Restoration Following Hurricane Ike
  • Learn how the East Cameron 328 “A” platform was producing and processing 3100 BOPD with 9 wells in 250 feet of water before Hurricane Ike toppled it at the mudline. 
  • Complicated but successful intervention in 2009 controlled the wells, eliminated a sheen and utilized new technology to accelerate the process
  • Discover the plans in place to replace the “A” platform with an existing platform to be decommissioning from another field in 2010.
  • Learn from and replicate how production was restored on the East Cameron “B” platform ahead of schedule and under budget

  • Discover how Century Exploration Inc. converted the former Gulf Commander drilling rig into a production platform to handle production in its West Cameron 368 field
  • In September 2008, Hurricane Ike, a category 2 windstorm, caused the rig to list. After consideration of a number of options Century resolved to decommission the rig 
  • Century elected to remove the rig, which was no longer seaworthy, by jacking it down onto a barge and towing it ashore. This was successfully completed in August, 2009
  • Learn about the specific challenges this project presented, the unique planning and execution strategies and the lessons learnt
