Gunther graduated from Manchester University with a BSC & MSC in Geology and joined BP in London as a geologist in 1980 after working for 3 years as a well-site engineer and geologist. Assignments followed in Germany, China, Aberdeen, Norway, Indonesia, Houston and Venezuela with Gunther experiencing all aspects of geology ranging from frontier exploration utilising satellite and field geology to reactivation of oilfields in the Orinoco delta of Venezuela. In 1996 Gunther returned to the North Sea taking on a number of business management roles in the Central North Sea, West of Shetland and finally running BP’s onshore terminals and pipeline business. In 2004 Gunther was posted to Baku as HSSE VP supporting BP’s operations in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Eastern Turkey. In October 2007 Gunther returned to the North Sea to lead a newly established team accountable for BP’s North Sea decommissioning programme which included NW Hutton, Miller and Don Field projects. In September 2009 Gunther was made VP Decommissioning for BP E&P, a role which has a global strategic and planning remit. |

Alistair Birnie is an Engineering graduate of the University of Aberdeen, and a business school Graduate of Robert Gordon University. He is also a chartered engineer and a member of the IET. He has 28+ years experience in the offshore and subsea industry, working for a number of well known service and engineering companies in technology development and project management roles, and has in his time delivered a number of the world's first, deepest, and biggest in new technology. Alistair has served as Chairman of the Aberdeen section of the Society for Underwater Technology and spent two years with the industry technology Facilitator, ITF, in a role that supported field trials and commercialisation of new technology.
More recently he had Global responsibility for Technology in Aker Solutions' Subsea Controls division, running their Research and Development unit, before taking up his current post as Chief Executive of Subsea UK. |

Dr Brian Twomey is the Managing Director of Reverse Engineering Services Ltd, Manchester, UK and is responsible for decommissioning and abandonment operations planning, decommissioning engineering, peer review work and cost analysis. He has worked on oil & gas decommissioning and pipeline issues for over 23 years and has carried out decommissioning studies/work on over 700 offshore installations worldwide.
He has worked on decommissioning in Africa, Australia, SE Asia, South America, Canada, Greece, Mexico, Norway, Ireland, UK and USA. Dr Twomey has presented over 100 papers on decommissioning and has given numerous public and private training courses on all aspects of decommissioning. |

Decom North Sea is the Aberdeen-based industry forum set up during 2009 to maximise the new business opportunities presented by offshore decommissioning. In early 2010 Decom North Sea announced the appointment of its first chief executive, Brian Nixon, the former director of Scottish Enterprise’s energy team.
As a mechanical engineer by profession Brian has had over 25 years’ experience in many aspects of the Oil and Gas industry, prior to joining Scottish Enterprise in 2001. His working knowledge in the Oil and Gas industry has also included four years as the Director for sales and marketing with the Wood Group and a secondment to the British Embassy in Luanda, Angola as the First Secretary of Commercial Oil and Gas. |

Luisa Rodriguez Lucas joined the OSPAR Commission as Deputy Secretary earlier this year. After Luisa completed her PhD in offshore pollution, she was invited to participate as a Fulbright researcher scholar in the National Pollution Funds Centre (NPFC), in the US where she conducted a comparative study between the international liability regime governed by the IOPC Funds and the US regime under the Oil Pollution Act. Over the next few years with OSPAR Luisa will be a key player in the successful contribution towards achieving OSPAR’s mission. At the OSPAR Commission, her team covers the work developed by three committees, namely the Offshore Industry, the Hazardous Substances, and the Radioactive Substances Committees. Luisa’s professional history extends from both policy making and policy advice with past experience in shaping environmental public policy while serving for several years as a legal adviser to the Spanish Ministry of Environment |

Hamish Lal is head of the Jones Day London contentious and noncontentious construction law practice. Â His practice covers the renewables, nuclear, oil, PFI, decommissioning and major projects sectors and he has experience drafting FIDIC, NEC, IChemE, JCT, and ICE-based contracts as well as bespoke target cost and alliance contracts. He has handled adjudications, arbitrations, expert determinations, mediations, and High Court disputes relating to a variety of contractual, technical, and financial matters including complex contractual interpretation, breach of EU procurement law, delay & disruption, professional negligence, defects, practical completion, liquidated damages, payment, variations, and termination. Â Hamish is author of Quantifying and Managing Disruption Claims (second edition due 2010), and he has published extensively and presented at a number of international and U.K. conferences on construction law and nuclear decommissioning and new build. He is a member of the Council of the Society of Construction Law and sits on the Committee of the Adjudication Society. |

Andrew Duncan has been in the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry for 23 years beginning in 1987 as a Trainee Communications Technician with Mobil North Sea Ltd. The next 10 years were spent with Seaforth Maritime, Kinergetics and latterly Divex where he spent the period working in various Commercial and Technical roles within the Commercial Diving Industry. In 1997 he joined Hydratight where he was responsible for developing their Subsea Standard Tooling Business both domestically and internationally in both Brazil and the United States. After 7 years a move to Coflexip Stena Offshore (thereafter Technip) followed working in the Business Development Department and then a move to Bibby Offshore Ltd in 2005 when he joined as Subsea Business Manager. Mr. Duncan has considerable experience in Offshore Subsea Contracting globally and has travelled extensively in growing Bibby Offshore’s International business from Trinidad, the United States and across the Asia Pacific Region. In July 2010 he took up his current position of Business and Commercial Director. |
