The joint venture between Grundon and Viridor: the Lakeside Energy from Waste (EfW) plant at Colnbrook was handed over by the contractor in January 2010 and is now fully operational. The plant is capable of recovering energy from over 410,000 tonnes of residual waste per year from local authorities and businesses. Lakeside EfW generate 37 MW of electricity. A small amount is used to power the plant itself while the vast majority is exported to the National Grid - enough to meet the domestic needs of c.50,000 homes, more than the population of Slough. Lakeside EfW has also been designed with the potential to export surplus heat, thus making it a combined heat and power (CHP) plant, as and when the local infrastructure become available to support this process. Following its success in the 2009 Letsrecycle Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management, Lakeside Energy from Waste has won a second award. The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards showcases the very best projects in both the built and the natural environment, celebrating excellence in Building Conservation, Community Benefit, Regeneration and Sustainability This is your chance to see the plant in action during a regular working day and to assess its' credentials first hand.
